Summary: The results of many foreign and Hungarian researchers presented at the 6th International Conference on Solidification and Gravity, in Miskolc-Lillafüred, on September 2-5, 2013 have been collected in this volume. This conference series is aimed to attract all those having interest in the investigation and simulation of different types of solidification processes and both micro- and macro-gravity effects. Within the framework of the conference a MICAST meeting (Microstructure Formation in Casting of Technical Alloys under Diffusive and Magnetically Controlled Convective Conditions) was organized on September 5-6, 2013. The 2013 conference was a memorial one for Professor Hans Eckart Exner and Professor Erik György Fuchs who had died in the period between the previous (2008) and the last (2013) conference. Keyword: Solidification, Microgravity, Casting, Eutectic, Peritectic, Forced convection, Cast iron, Rapid Solidification The 80 papers cover the effect of microgravity, modeling solidification, grain refinement, microstructure and phase evaluation, continuous casting, in situ observations of solidification processes, eutectic and peritectic solidification, forced conversion and melt flow, cast iron, and rapid solidification. Among the specific topics are simulating dendritic growth in multicomponent aluminum alloys by the point automata method, determining impurity diffusion coefficients in a single experimental cycle, the effect of mushy zone permeability on the formation of center-line segregation in slab casting, microstructure evolution in an aluminum cladded sheet during vacuum brazing, and a possible mechanism for the formation of exploded graphite in nodular cast irons. -- Materials science-- Metals-- Solid state materials and hard matter.
