Summary: While deeply absorbed in public and political life from 1893 till his martyrdom on January 30,1948, Mahatma Gandhi had lived with the Bhagavad Gita as his primary source of ethical, moral and spiritual inspiration. He professed that his "life is based on the teachings of the Gita." He considered the Gita as his 'Mother', 'Kamadhenu', and 'dictionary of reference for the solution of all troubles and trials'. It is, however, generally not realized that he has also written and spoken on the Gita and its teachings more than anyone else in history, giving a very comprehensive and contemporary interpretation of the Gita, in a language at once simple and profound. This 'Book' titled MAHATMA GANDHI'S 'WORKS' and INTERPRETATION of The BHAGAVAD GITA has been compiled and written as a work of reference on all that Mahatma Gandhi wrote or said on the Gita. It consists of two 'Volumes' containing seven 'Parts'. His four self-contained 'Works' on the Gita, viz., Gitapadarthakosha (1923-1936), Gitashikshan (1928), Anasaktiyoga, or, The Gita According to Gandhi (1930), and Gitabodh (1930-32), constituting Parts 4 to 7, are included as Volume II. Author's thesis on 'Mahatma Gandhi and his Understanding and Interpretation of the Gita1, Gandhiji's 'Miscellaneous References' on the Gita, showing his application of it, and the Sanskrit text of the Gita, constituting Parts 1 to3, are included as Volume I. It is sincerely hoped that this 'Book' will serve as a perennial source of reference, guidance and inspiration for all.
