In colonial India, a village woman takes refuge in a spice factory to avoid an oppressive visiting tax collector (subedar) who demands sex while her husbands is away. An aging factory guard refuses to open the doors to the tax collector's soldiers, the cowardly village men, or the subedar himself. The stage is set for a final confrontation between the woman and her would-be attacker.
