Hariram, a poor laborer in a mill at Gopipur, loved his wife Bela and son Rattan so well that he bestowed lavishly all the comforts of life on them. Miseries sneaked into Hariram's life when he lost his wife and wrongfully accused of murder. He was found guilty and sent to Delhi jail to await the death sentence. His son, Rattan, journeys to Delhi and attempts to save his father from an undeserved punishment by putting case before Pandit Nehru while being secretly followed by the murder. It is a story of the child's struggle against what appeares to be Fate.
