Based on Śamkara's novel
Set in Calcutta, this film tells the story of an ambitious young sales executive at a British-owned firm whose promotion to a hotly contested seat on the corporate board of directors is jeopardized when the shipment of a big export order must be delayed. He resolves the problem through a deceitful and dangerous ploy which, while winning him the admiration of his boss and assuring him the promotion, loses him the respect he sought from his sister-in-law.
