India is changing rapidly, propelled by democratic forces that are sometimes skewed. Sachin Pilot and Arun Maira explore that the emerging face of a young and energized India, where democracy has taken strong root. But low levels of basic necessities such as nutrition and education are cause for serious concern, with the problem outpacing population growth. If the forecasts about India becoming a major economic super-power over the next fifty years are to materialize. We shall have to break out of the vicious cycle of poverty and deprivation by promoting mass dialogue among the ‘new’ Indian citizens and by producing inspired leaders capable of taking the country forward.
